This guy is in jail now. I doubt he will ever get out. The prblem lies with how the intial case was/wasn't handled. If If If IF!!! Just put simply. Had the police did just the bare minimum to solve the case of the break in. All the rest of the crimes, (esp the rape) would not have happened. And this lady wouldn't have had ot go through this ordeal. Something that will haunt her all her life. Could have been prevented by simple police work. It must be simple. Since I figured this out on just bits and pieces of what the police told us. How can I add 2 and 2 and come up with 4. And they cannot even write the problem on paper to sovle. They half ass apoligised and admitted they dropped the ball. Big deal. How do we keep it from happening again! That's what I want. I don't want simple to solve cases to continue to turn into larger cases that in (more than likely most of the time) get solved. and the criminal put away.

Good job Terry! on following through! You wrote articles for the Journal, Concerned pastors and the Uncommon Sense. All excellent articles on the Ombudsman's issue. Thank you for your time and effort and what you have in the works. It seems some of us need to do some stepping up! oh, what are nbh funtions? There are some Community Block Grant funding issues on the current agenda.

Terry,
Your office would be great. I'm just stuck at work from 7:00 AM until 5:pm on Saturdays. Sunday is my only day off. I'm usually vailable later in the evenings. When everybody else with family's are spending time with them. Since I live alone I have plenty of time in the evenings. Except on Monday which is a school Night and I'm at Baker.

There will be no best time. We can run the meeting in the chat room. I,ll log on. I can put three computers on line in my office. We could run the entire meeting on line in this forum. I will post a new topic and we can do it there some real time some not. Any thoughts. I think its workable. Remember, we are transparent and factually based it does not matter who knows and the more the better. We can meet when we have a "show up" ie council meeting or another event... any thought ?- terry Bankert

I don't think we are ready yet. We need to get more people together first. It is a good idea but we need to be more diverse. Like I said I watched two groups I have dealt with in the past speaking together at council. They are almost ready to reel in. Keep working on format \issues and give meetings a bit more time for co-operation. just my opinion

Your right, We do need more people involved. I'm trying to talk to more residents and test for possible involvement. I can see why the many are are run over by the few. Too many people don't want to get involved and alow the few to make the decsions in their own best interests.
If Josh doesn't run for council next time around. I may have to myself.
I am just baffled about not purchasing these garbage turcks from someone in my own ward!!! Then pay twice as much to buy them from Auburn Hills.

Sorry for not following this as much as I should.

Terry I would be interested in meeting with you. How do I contact you?

Rupunzel if you are willing to identify yourself it seems like we will be running in the same circles.

As to this group I think we will have some expertice. We have legal and former governemt experience and Business experience and politocal and community involvement experience. If I had to pick a role in our group I would choose jobs and I also think it may be almost mandatory for me to speak at city council meetings. The way my website is growing I think that in 1-2 years I will be a very legitimate company.

Personally I could use some help with Flint schools. I would like to help students get jobs on the internet that are real and do exist but it seems very hard to work with Flint schools. I may be able to get around that though by working up through the student body. It looks like the Hispanic tech center may be able to help me with this.

Should we elect a coordinator or would anyone be willing to coordinate this? I would personally prefer Terry but I myself might be willing to do this or I would also support whoever the group wants. Has anyone checked with Josh Freeman to see he is willing to get involved in this? I might mention something to him at the next council meeting if no one else has checked with him.

As a followup to my original post. There was talk of another website coming to help this community get more organized. Not surprisingly it will be done by the hispanic tech center which I would like to partner with. I have met with the director once so far. They are doing some web design training for kids on Saturdays.

FLINT CITIZEN- By: Terry Bankert 02/11/2006

I am a member of Flint Citizen Internet Internet Advocacy (FCIA)

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Flintcitizen

We have taken a position to promote on- line the retention of the Flint Ombudsman office as tool to cause governmental accountability. Recently a member questioned the consequence of our actions see the post below. A legitimate question. What more can we do? Below are some of my thoughts what are yours?

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Flintcitizen/message/75

Our objective was to cause community discussion on the Flint Ombudsman office when there was none. We have accomplished that in a responsible manner. "Just say no" as a theme would have been better than our " Vote no on proposition 2" but it is responsible to not cause harm to the millage question. We are not in opposition. But to call a grass roots effort of no consequence! We have met our objective. Thoughts on how to take our message to the community door steps follow but it will require more that talk. It will take action. Right now Ted is the street campaign. What are you, the supporters to keep the Flint Ombudsman office willing to do? Some thoughts follow .......

HOW TO MAKE A SPLASH

What are your thoughts.

Here’s mine

1. Lets form a Flint Citizens Ombudsman Citizens committee, [press conference] [what topic to center on? Possibly the police chase policy?]

a. to assist the new flint ombudsman to hit the ground running.

b. do research and issue critical reports on city service to the new ombudsman or if the office fails to issue them as committee advocacy .

c. issue statement showing what critical reports could have been issued in the last year to better let the community know what’s happening?[press hook]

d. have 20 speakers at the next Flint city council meeting with pickets outside to save the office [news hook]

e. centralize all of our email addresses of flint residents to promote the vote to save the office.

2.SET UP AN INFORMATIONAL PICKET 30 MIN. BEFORE THE NEXT FLINT CITY COUNCIL MEETING [news hook]

3. RAISE $1,000 AND MAIL THE LOW TURN OUT VOTERS [campaign persuasion]

4.raise $400 to print hand bills to hand out at the polls, will need 30 people to do that. Who’s volunteering?

Anybody interested in making a splash meet on line at 1 pm Saturday 2/11/06

Ted I need to pick up the remainder of your signs

......................................... AND

1. Talk to your friends.

2. Talk to any organization you belong to that will listen, put the question of their agenda, you speak for the Ombudsman or call me I will.

3. Write letters to the media and Flint elected officials in support of the Flint Ombudsmen office

4. Join the effort actively at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Flintcitizen/

5. Independently buy an ad promoting the Ombudsmen office. Samples will be posted here.

6. Attend our "show ups" , NEXT CITY COUNCIL MEETING

7. Tell two people about the Flint Ombudsmen ballot question..

8. All the free support we can get. And any Independent action on your part, just keep us informed.

Do not wait to follow, just lead!

This group has 41 members. How many members does the millage renewal committee have?

We have the informational debate on the 28th. The coverage here could make or break the issue. I suggest informational pickets 1 hour before the debate.[news hook]

The success is in the number of the positive voter contacts not the size of the committee. We have put more on the ground or in the emails than the millage group or the yes interests in the ombudsman group.

We have 40 yard signs up. How many yard signs does the millage committee have?

To All what are you ready to do?

My objective was to provide a platform for grass roots activisitm and create the shell of a campaign quickly. If you support the office recruit two people and lets hit the street. Most campaign organizations are 10-20 people.

If 20 people were to produce 100 flyers on their home computer we could lit drop 4 High vote Flint Precincts Sunday. Who will do this?

5 people carrying our home made yard signs on the side walk out side the five largest churches would have a great splash. Who will do this.

Lets go swimming and make a splash?

If we can cause an internet coalition to hit the ground a couple of times it will cause a splash. Who’s in?

We did not cause a special election in Feb 28 in the middle of winter.

We did not cause a confusing ballot.

We did not cause the deadline to submit application for the office to be Feb 15 before the election on the 28th.

We did not cause this confusion.

With a moderate impact of our no message to the identifiable low turn out election voter we will win.

There is more going on in the community than we know, the buzz has started on the issue and will take on a life of its own as it should this is not our issue it’s the communities issue.

Don’t wait to follow...just lead!

Excellent post. I think our local politicla movement is making progress. Other things are how many people attend the weed and seed meetings, East side business meetings and many others. Usually less than 40!!! We are making progress. next year at this time. The internet might have the biggest community group!!!
