A Father & Daughter Conversation A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age she considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat and was for distribution of all wealth. She felt deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican which she expressed openly. One day she was challenging her father on his beliefs and his opposition to higher taxes on the rich & the addition of more government welfare programs. Based on the lectures that she had participated in and the occasional chat with a professor she felt that for years her father had obviously harbored an evil, even selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his. The self professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father. He stopped her and asked her point blank, how she was doing in school. She answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain. That she studied all the time, never had time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend and didn't really have many college friends because of spending all her time studying. That she was taking a more difficult curriculum. Her father listened and then asked, "How is your good friend Mary doing?" She replied, "Mary is barely getting by." She continued, "She barely has a 2.0 GPA," adding, "and all she takes are easy classes and she never studies." "But Mary is so very popular on campus, college for her is a blast, she goes to all the parties all the time and very often doesn't even show up for classes because she is too hung over." Her father then asked his daughter, "Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct a 1.0 off your 4.0 GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0." He continued, "That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA." The daughter visibly shocked by her father's suggestion angrily fired back, "That wouldn't be fair! I worked really hard for mine, I did without and Mary has done little or nothing, she played while I worked real hard!" The father slowly smiled, winked and said: "Welcome to the Republican Party."

If we redistribute the wealth why should someone strive to become successful? This is my problem with the whole Obama campaign. I have seen familys that are on welfare for generations. Why should I continue to work two jobs and provide for my family? I could be rewarded for not doing anything. There needs to motivation for people to succeed. Regardless on how rich someone is they earned it. I imagine they have worked hard to get a successful buisness. Why should they be punished to help someone out that hasn't worked as hard?

Good grief, economics 101 and Social Studies all wrapped up into one. Seek you are wise beyond your years!! Smile

I do wish they would teach your theory in Middle School and along these lines you have hit the nail on the head. Why be productive if big daddy OhNobama will take care of us?

The more we turn to big daddy the more of our free will and freedom in general we lose. Do some research on "1984" by George Orwell.

Sigh. Sad

Seems to me that Mr. OhNobama told Joe The Plumer that "it is time to spread the wealth around." Wonder if the includes the Kennedy Klan? Laughing

This whole mortgage bailout is the final straw for me. As many of you know I am laid off from the City of Flint. I saved my money before I was laid off and bought a house that I could afford on one income. I did this so I wouldn't lose my house in case I was ever laid off. The government is now telling me that I didn't have to make any of those sacrifices. I should have blown all of my money and bought a bigger house. Why should I be punished for being responsible? This is america, I shouldn't have to pay my neighbors mortgage. I'm sorry if they fell on hard times, but it a lesson that hopefully they will learn from. I learned my credit lessons when I was younger. How will people ever become successful if they aren't forced to learn from there mistakes. Come on people we learned this in elementary school. This is not a socialist country, if that is what we want Canada is a short drive away. I wonder when Obama will help out the working people of this nation.

A lot of Americans are asking exactly the same questions. Myself I would like to know what happened to all the Obamanuts who were on this forum telling us how great things are gonna be once the "messiah" takes over.

You know I find it very interesting that the closer we move toward socialism the closer China and Russa move toward capitalism. Any of you liberal reprobates care to explain why? It is obvious that your form of government does not work, and before you wish to debate me look at Cuba!!

Libre Cuba ahora!!

And when taxes become so high it's impossible to sustain a business, then what?

A tad more in taxes? 50% taxation isn't enough for you. A lot of taxes you pay aren't even included in the prices such as the minimum wage tax, inflation tax, and the biggest one higher prices to pay for the government taxes tax. The average American pays over 50% in taxes when you look at everything.
