Last night, when I took in "What Happened in Vegas" at the US 23 Twin Drive-in, I learned that the drive-in's owner, Lou Warrington, suffered a heart attack last year and he is homebound. His wife Diane is both caring for him and managing the drive-in. The feeling is that this is the US 23's final year of operation. I'm told that the only reason the rival Miracle Twin Drive-in is still open is because the 23 is still open. So if the 23 closes permanently, so will the Miracle Twin. So take in a drive-in movie. Whatever movie you wish to see, if it's at the 23 or Miracle Twin, go to the drive-in instead and help out the Warrington family and convince National Amusements to keep the Miracle Twin open. I've written a news story for The Flint Journal about the situation so watch for it as well as next month's Your Magazine as I'm rewriting the planned drive-in theaters article for the June issue to reflect the news. My old Uncommon Sense readers may recall that I wrote about the local drive-ins a few years ago. The old Uncommon Sense issues are now on microfilm at the main Flint Public Library.

P.S. Get your drive-in snacks at the drive-in's refreshment stand. It's at the refreshment stand where the drive-ins make their profit. BTW, the 23 still sells Pic mosquito coils.

I was at Swartz Funeral Home tonight. Todd Warrington's funeral is tomorrow. Lou (Todd's father) was there but is using a cane and has to sit down. He has back and kidney problems, but is determined to make a full recovery from his heart attack. Todd also had a heart attack, but it proved fatal as he died last Friday. The impression I have is they, even though there is some doubts among family members (notably Lou's wife Diane), most of the Warringtons are determined to keep the US 23 Twin Drive-in open. Todd's online obit is at...
