McCain blames 'greedy' for recession
By Stephen Dinan
April 14, 2008

U.S. Senator John McCain, R-Arizona, addresses the Associated Press annual meeting and answers questions of reporters during the AP Annual Meeting at the Washington Convention Center. (Astrid Riecken/The Washington Times)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sen. John McCain this morning said "greedy" Wall Street investors are partly to blame for what he said is probably an economic recession the nation is now suffering.

"There has to be a modification of the greedy behavior of some of these people," he said, using the word "greedy" repeatedly in remarks to the Associated Press annual meeting at the Washington Convention Center today.

Ha! Youre right I would get some comments for sure.

If it wasn't for greedy investors we wouldn't have greedy corporations starting up and we could all live on welfare happily ever after while the chinese continue to buy up all our debt.

Defending greed is a bit surprising. I saw Wall Street too. If a corporation pollutes the earth, hordes resources, exploits workers, cooks books, raids pension funds or produces an unsafe product I would hope that they would be held responsible to the letter of the law. Often times that is not the case.
I don't advocate for violence against corporations or the rich. I don't think we need new laws. Heck I don't even think that corporations or the rich should be taxed at a higher rate than I am. I would hope it would be the same. But I don't think that's the case either.
I am not jealous of the wealthy. I do find it distasteful if you have lied, cheated or stole to accumulate wealth.
I make an effort to spend my money on products and in places that have a reputation for fair business practices.

I would think most folks would agree with that. by the way I also apply greed and selfishness onto those amongst us expecting someone elses labors to provide for them.

Defending marxism/socialism seems more surprising. I support "greedy" corporations but I also support property rights and contract rights. If it wasn't for "greedy" consumers there wouldn't be "greedy" corporations.

If most folks agreed with that Wal-Mart would be no more.

Please. Anybody that doesn't agree with you is a Communist. Show me where I've defended Marxism. (even if I had it is my right)

One of the greatest opponents of freemarket capitalism is marxism/capitalism. You sounded like you were opposing free market capitalism which reminds me of marxism/communism.

My position is America is pretty highly socialized. I would like us to move back towards pure free market capitalism before it is too late.
