i just saw the show in which the lady sportscaster made the comment.
i honestly think she said it in jest. they are friends. this reminds me of
the jimmy the greek quote that blacks were bred to be big and strong.
back at that time i was shocked. later that day i talked to my dad about
it and he said he didn't see what the big deal was because it was true.
i thought about it and eventually felt sorry for jimmy because he hadn't
made that comment out of hate. he just made a comment that was true.
agreed race can be a slippery slope but unless it's discussed to the point
of mutual respect, we will never solve that age old problem. i don't think
she should be fired.
by the way, that breeding thing didn't always work. i'm fat and weak |

LT- incase no one ever told you, your dad was wrong. The statement made by Jimmy the greek was wrong and offensive. It's the same as someone saying all White people are devils and born to be evil, you know? Sorry racial insensitivity and ignorrance was passed down to you... |

Glaring example of your point LT
I didn't see the news cast but read several reports on the suspending of this newscaster... Man this country is headed to a scary place when you have to filter everything you say through a constantly thinning sieve. |

I disagree, hmmm. It's not the same as saying all white people are devils and born to be evil. In fact, the greek was giving a wrongful and racially-motivated underhanded compliment, not insult. now maybe you can compare that goofy statement he made as to saying all white people are better lovers or can jump higher (which is not only racial, but untrue)! |

hmmmmmmm..you gotta be kidding. i've been black over 50 years
it's thinking like yours that keeps the crap going. jimmy the greek was
vilified from that point forward for no good reason. yes, the girl made
a comment that was insensitive, BUT, it wasn't meant in a hateful way.
i am assuming you are black. it's good that we disagree because all
can see we (blacks) are not a monolithic society.
lighten up!!!!
by the way hmmmmmmmmmm. i do think fuzzy zoeller was wrong
with his "fried chicken or whatever they eat" statement when referring
to tiger. |

As I understand it, Tiger & the lady in question are pretty good friends, and he's said he knows she was kidding and he has no problem with what she said.
If so, then Al is the only one with a problem. If I was Tiger, and the above is true, Id use my influence to keep her on the job.
Jimmy The Greek, by the way, was correct. Slaves were selectively "bred" in order to try to obtain larger & stronger field hands. Very distasteful, but it's a historical fact.
Anyway, there's really only one race; human. Physical differences are superficial and meaningless. |

Dave Starr, its agreed that the human race is what matters most but again, Jimmy the greeks comment regardless of whether he meant malice or not was wrong because none of the athletes (from which the conversation took place and he was referring to) were slaves, or even ex-slaves and generalizing all post slavery-modern day blacks as being 'bred to be big and strong' was again wrong and offensive. This is why everyone (blacks, whites, and hispanics) were upset. He was fired because of the ignorance from which he spoke. I believe Jimmy meant no harm to anyone, but it was his responsibility to control his mouth. Kinda like the current events of today... |

If everyone on TV was fired because of ignorance of what they spoke, there would be no one broadcasting. The fact remains that he wasn't fired for ignorance of which he spoke, but of the ignorance of people threatened by words, and those who worship Political Correctness over common sense. |

aw come on..he wasn't generalizing anything. he simply made a
historic fact. should it have been said? no. we've all got to stop being
so touchy about race. there is a difference between malice and ignorance. |
