Providing proof that Sheriff Joe Arpaio intends to continue his investigation of President Obama’s eligiblity, his Cold Case Posse has pressed the director of the Selective Service System not to destroy any microfilm records that may yet exist of Obama’s 1980 draft registration form.

In an emergency letter Wednesday to Selective Service System Director Lawrence Romo, Mike Zullo, the lead investigator in the Cold Case Posse, asked for reassurance that the microfilm records still exist.

We would like to be assured of the disposition of the microfilm reel or reels containing President Obama’s Selective Service registration form,” Zullo wrote. “Please indicate whether or not you have possession of the microfilm reel or reels containing President Obama’s records or access to them.”

The concerns were raised after Arpaio’s office received official confirmation from the Selective Service System that Obama’s paper draft registration records have been destroyed after being microfilmed.

In addition, an article published Monday by the Washington Times “Communities” social journalism section reported new Selective Service privacy rules might allow existing microfilm records to be destroyed as well.

GOP candidate loses backing over Obama birth claims
Comments

Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio has cast doubt on President Obama's birth certificate.
CAPTIONBy Charlie Leight, The Arizona RepublicA congressional candidate who cast doubts about President Obama's birth certificate has lost the support of the major newspaper in his district.

The Charlotte Observer has rescinded its endorsement of Republican Jim Pendergraph, a leading candidate seeking to replace retiring Rep. Sue Myrick , R-N.C.

Pendergraph, a former Mecklenburg County sheriff, fell out of favor with the newspaper when he sided with Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who has investigated the authenticity of Obama's birth certificate.

"I have reason to be suspicious," Pendergraph told the Charlotte newspaper, a few days after he was endorsed by Arpaio. "But I don't know. I haven't seen the facts. I think there's a lot of smoke and generally when there's smoke there's got to be fire somewhere."

Obama was born in Hawaii, but the issue of whether his birth certificate is valid -- and his presidency is legitimate -- still continues to be an issue for some people. Obama's re-election campaign recently poked fun at Arpaio, as he held a news conference saying the president's birth certificate is a fake.

Richard Hudson, another GOP congressional candidate in North Carolina, reportedly told a campaign audience that "there's no question President Obama is hiding something on his citizenship," according to Roll Call.

North Carolina is a key battleground state in the presidential election, and one where Obama would like to repeat his 2008 victory. The state also has a couple of high-profile races that could help determine which party controls the U.S. House.

Donation To Joe Arpaio's Birther 'Cold Case Posse' Rejected By Maricopa County

The Huffington Post | By Luke Johnson Posted: 06/21/2012 6:19 pm Updated: 06/22/2012 12:50 pm

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's "Cold Case Posse" spent $9,500 searching for President Obama's birth certificate.

Arizona taxpayers will have to foot the bill for Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's quest for President Barack Obama's birth certificate.

The controversial sheriff's office spent more than $9,600 -- including more than $3,500 in overtime -- to investigate Obama's birth certificate, but the county won't accept a private donation to offset some of the cost.

The county Board of Supervisors on Wednesday rejected $5,000 to cover some of the costs of the so-called Cold Case Posse. The vote was 2-2, with one member abstaining.

Opponents of Arpaio argued against the donation, saying that the sheriff needed to be held accountable for using taxpayer money. "So, what, someone else goes in, say they give him $10,000, they can go investigate their own personal agenda? This is about holding public officials accountable with our taxpayer dollars," said Randy Parraz, an anti-Arpaio activist leading Citizens for a Better Arizona.

A publicly-funded deputy from Arpaio's office went with a volunteer in May to the Hawaii Department of Health to request verification of Obama's birth certificate. A Hawaii deputy attorney general gave them the legal requirements to obtain the document, which are viewable online, and they left the office, according to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.

Arpaio claimed he needed the deputy to go on the trip for "security issues."

The White House released the "long-form" version of the president's birth certificate online in April 2011. During the 2008 presidential campaign, the Obama campaign made public a "certification of live birth." Both documents state that Obama was born on Aug. 4, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Arpaio still faces a Justice Department lawsuit for discriminating against Latinos and disregarding their basic constitutional rights.
