FENTON, MI – Fenton police arrested a pair from Flint who allegedly stole nearly $1,500 from Walmart Wednesday.

A 36-year-old Flint man walked into the store, at 3700 Owen Road, and purchased about $671 in toys about 10:30 a.m. Dec. 12, Lt. Jason Slater said.

The man then took the merchandise out to the parking lot and unloaded the toys. He then came back in and got every item he'd already purchased, put it in his cart and bought one item.

Slater said the man walked out of the store with all the toys and said he already paid for the items and showed the receipt from his earlier transaction.

The man returned to the store later in the day and did the same thing with $684 in toys, Slater said. He had a 27-year-old Flint woman try to return the stolen merchandise, but Walmart officials called police.

Police found a hand gun in the woman's purse and arrested her and the man on a suspicion of a felony charge of retail fraud.

BURTON, MI – No one was seriously injured in Burton after an assault and attempted robbery resulted in shots being fired into a home adjacent to a daycare Friday, Dec. 14.

Two unknown assailants assaulted a man outside a home in the 5200 block of Lapeer Road and then tried to rob the home just before 3:30 p.m., Burton police Sgt. Marty Coe said. The suspects fired at least two gunshots into the home, shattering the window on the door.

After shooting into the home, the suspects fled in an unknown direction, armed with handguns, Coe said.

The man who was assaulted outside the home suffered minor injuries.

Police would not say what the suspects were trying to take from the home.

Brandon Forcier was doing yard work outside his mother's childcare facility and said he heard what he thought were fireworks.

"I heard a lady yell, 'Call 911,' and then I saw all the cops," Forcier said.

Nancy's Day Care, which is two doors down from where the shooting occurred, had between 12 and 15 children there who ranged in age from infant to 5 years old at the time, Forcier said.

"It ticks me off," he said. "Who shoots in broad daylight next to a daycare?"

Forcier said there are people in and out of the home at all hours of the day.

The area between Flushing and Welch, Winona to Mason filled with "shots fired" Friday night. Sadly, many residents don't bother to call 011 any more as they say it doesn't do any good.
Another thing was the odd timing of the shooting almost on the hour, every hour.
2 am- 1500 block Lavender
3 am - 3100 block Mallery
4 m - 2800 bl Begole and 2900 block Mackin

other areas also had shots fired.

In the 90's the King Party store was one of a number of related stores owned by Chaldean ownerswho were raided on similar charges as well as charges they were funding terrorists groups. This article does not idicate if the illegal proceeds were used in the illicit drug trade or other illegal activity.

For such a light sentence the suspect must ave given up someone.

Flint man sentenced to federal prison for food stamp fraud, gun charges

By Gary Ridley | gridley@mlive.com
on December 21, 2012 at 10:45 PM, updated December 21, 2012 at 11:04 PM

FLINT, MI -- A Flint man convicted in federal court of food stamp fraud and illegal gun charges was sentenced to spend five years in federal prison and repay more than $600,000, according to court records.
Flint Federal District Judge Mark A. Goldsmith entered his judgement Friday, Dec. 21, against Akhir McFarland. McFarland, 43, pleaded guilty to unauthorized use of food stamps and unlawful transport of a firearm
.

Authorities say McFarland and Noha T. Fofana illegally illegally redeemed hundreds-of-thousands of dollars of food stamps benefits at Fofana's west Flint Mandingo African Market between February 2009 and July 2011.

The United States Attorney Office of the Eastern District of Michigan claimed that McFarland and Fofana, who was previously convicted by a jury and is awaiting sentencing in federal court, conspired to manually enter Bridge Card numbers, a debit card-like device that electronically tracks benefits, and PINs order to transfer the benefits to the market’s bank account.

The two agreed to pay customers, including undercover law enforcement agents, roughly 50 cents for each $1 charged against their cards.

Between June 2010 and June 2011, 95 percent of all food stamp transactions were manually entered into the system.

Witnesses testified that Fofana would not only manually enter Bridge Card transactions when there were no customers present, but would call a clerk at the store and have him manually enter transactions.

An analysis conducted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture showed that the market’s average food stamp redemption amount was $26,798 per month – compared to an average of $5,479 monthly redemption for other convenience stores within a .8 mile radius.

Goldsmith ordered McFarland to serve one year, four months in prison and pay nearly $613,000 in restitution on the food stamp charge.

McFarland, a previously convicted felon, was charged with unlawful transport of a firearm after authorities discovered a .38-caliber pistol in his home while executing a search warrant, according to court records.

He was previously convicted of two counts of bank robbery in December 2002 and of two drug charges in 2010.

$2,000 in cash taken during armed robbery at Flint business

By Roberto Acosta | racosta1@mlive.com
on December 23, 2012 at 12:28 PM, updated December 23, 2012 at 12:33 pm
FLINT, MI -- A store employee in Flint was struck with a handgun and robbed Friday morning at a South Dort Highway business, according to a police report
The employee told police while he was counting petty cash around 7:40 a.m. in an office at the business in the 3000 block of South Dort, when two men dressed in black clothing and wearing face masks walked into the office.

One of the men pointed a gun at the employee, while the second man took $1,600 from the petty cash safe and removed two cash drawers containing a total of $400.

The man holding the gun then struck the employee in the head before the pair fled in an unknown direction from the business.

Pseudonym-name

How did the robbers gain entry? Sounds like a fast food restaurant. The economy being as bad as it is brings out more desperate people doing illegal things they would have never believed. Something is amiss because two masked gunmen just do not end up at your office door when you are counting money. I would not discount an inside job. Be thankful nobody was injured.

Authorities say Evans, along with 11 others charged in a federal indictment in May, controlled a drug distribution enterprise on the city's south side and used violence, threats and intimidation to maintain their hold on the area's drug trade from 2002 to May 2012.

Prosecutors agreed to dismiss a crack cocaine distribution charge against Evans. He is scheduled to be sentenced April 16.

A number of additional individuals named in the initial indictment now also face multiple new charges of attempted murder in aid of racketeering and use of a firearm while committing a crime:

Authorities say Gills was with a second man named in the indictment when he attempted to kill four people by shooting into their vehicle March 17, 2009, on the 3200 block of Lippincott in Burton.

• Johnathan E. Walker is now charged with assault with intent to murder a victim, identified only as AG, Feb. 7, 2010, in Flint.

Flint's police were busy last night!

Police apprehended at least one suspect in an attempted home invasion in the 500 block of E Stewart.

A chase that started on Flint Park also had narcotics and a gun thrown from the car and recovered. The driver and passenger bailed from the car and were chased and apprehended. The car struck a tree on E Bishop. Poloice had a triple plat.

There needs to be something done with the Evergreen Regency housing complex. Too many police calls there! A large fight earlier in the evening in the 25oo block of Trout later had shots fired into an apt. in 2600 Trout. HUD needs to consider financing proper security if they want to continue building large complexes in which to warehouse people.

They also responded to numerous calls of shots fired.

A young man was shot in leg in the 400 block of E. Bishop early in the evening.

Bobby Daytonave Person told FPO his house was shot up on Robin Street. He might want to consider changing his moniker!

This warehousing of people has the distinct advantage of keeping the druggies and bangers somewhat confined in one area. Maybe LBJ wasnt as dumb as suspected.
