When the problem house at 909 E Seventh in the Fairfield Subdivision had the proposed demolition denied, residents did not give up. In a collaborative effort they created a three page petition that was signed by over 95 % of the residents. The petition was comprehensive and detailed the history, defined the problem and stated their solution. They fanned out like an army until they reached as many residents as possible.

Last weekend the house came down. Neighbors came and photographed the house as the city was razing it.

Not stopping here the group is looking at other problems in their neighborhood, including an illegal U of M-Flint fraternity. Neighbors are tired of the loud parties and other bad behaviors. Can we expect more petitions?

Interesting note. The Metamora partner of Usewick removed all of the siding and metal from the house making it easier to accomplish the demolition.

Who was the contractor legally responsible for the demolition? And was the amount gained for recycling the siding and metals credited to the final bill?

He was a contractor from Metamora and kept showing residents his name on his truck tp prove his legitimacy.
