Millage defeat overshadows Fenton's city council elections

FENTON, Michigan — Brad Jacob, Ben Smith and Dianne North all received about 30 percent of the total votes in Fenton to win three seats on Fenton City Council, but the big story from Tuesday’s election was the overwhelming defeat of the proposed millage.
Eighty-four percent of the 1,434 votes were cast against the 1.5, 10-year millage that would have gone toward capital improvements.
“I’m impressed with the voter turnout,” said Gwen Jensen, a member of the Genesee County “Taxed Enough Already” Party. “I’ve been a 20-year Fenton resident, but I was really impressed with the turnout today. I think people were really serious about saying ‘No more, I cant take it anymore.’”
Fenton resident Tom Frederick cast one of the 1,208 dissenting votes.
