FLINT, MI – Flint has set a record for homicides in 2012 after a November shooting victim died earlier this month.

Matthew Dewayne Williams, 24, died March 11 in Detroit, according to an obituary.

Michigan State Police confirmed that Williams died from injuries sustained Nov. 6 after he was shot at a gas station at Clio Road and Myrtle Avenue.

Flint police Chief Alvern Lock said he hadn’t heard about Williams being the 67th homicide for 2012.

“Until I can actually confirm it, I’m not going to say anything,” he said.

Williams’ funeral was Monday, March 20, at Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home.

Police previously said he was shot at the gas station about 5:20 p.m. and went to the hospital in a personal vehicle. It was the first in a string of three shootings that night that included a homicide on Flushing Road.

Flint recorded its 66th homicide on Sunday, Dec. 30, when a man was found dead inside a vehicle at Myrtle and Milbourne avenues.

This is crazy. The violence in this city has to seriously slow way down. I don't know what it will take.
