I recently got a private message asking why Operation Unification was still receiving federal money from the city and then I was informed that in the Flint Journal's article on the million dollar tax foreclosures was the apartments on Lippincott owned sometimes by Operation Unification(OU) and sometimes of the Operation Unification CEO Charles Young. Both OU and Young are on the foreclosure list. But that doesn't stop the Land Bank from using them. But then let's remember how Commissioner Omar Sims told the Planning Commission that Young was a Beecher guy trying to do good for the neighborhood.





Genesee County Land Bank partners with local organizations for Jan. 19 Home Tours

FLINT, MI —The Genesee County Land Bank will show 11 of their renovated homes on Saturday, Jan. 19, as part of the organization’s series of Home Tours.

The tours will showcase the homes’ new kitchens, new bathroom, new appliances, and security systems and offer participants the opportunity to walk through the properties and talk with realtors about how the can take part in the Land Bank’s home-ownership program.

Some of the homes, the Land Bank said, sell for as little as $1,000 down.

For the Home Tours, the Land Bank has partnered with Salem Housing Community Development Corporation, Operation Unification and Renaissance of Smith Village.

The Land Bank said it partnered with the other organizations because they all share the similar goal of offering affordable housing in Flint through the use of the $10.7 million Neighborhood Stabilization Program federal grant. Because of the shared goal, the groups decided to partner together to market the homes.

All of 11 newly renovated homes on this tour are located in neighborhoods around the downtown Flint area.

Homes included are: locate at 1008 Dupont St., 818 Lyon St., 2210 Joliet St., 6525 Dupont St., 1941 Burr Blvd., 1650 N. Grand Traverse, 2017 Barbara Dr., 406 N. Grand Traverse, 646 W. Austin Ave., 2025 Howard Ave. and 557 Williams St. at Renaissance of Smith Village.

The tour will go from 2-5 p.m. More information about the tour is available at the Land Bank’s Facebook page.

Last time I looked Austin and Barbara Drive were far north end and nowhere near downtown.

As the CEO of Operation Unification, how is he making these mortgages and transfers? How much of the 2008 loan for $600,000 has been paid back?

When Operation Unification has shaky credentials at best, why do they keep getting these federal contracts? Where are the investigative agencies. The Office of Inspector general's Alexandra Graemer obviously doesn't care.
