I am not the only inquiring mind that wants to know!

tdimhcs

Why no mention of the shooting at Fifth Ave and Saginaw on July 4th?

Oh, that's right. Cannot let the public know about any violent crimes near downtown or on July 4th.

At least there was not a shoot out downtown like last month.

tdimhcs wanted to know why the mainstream media did not cover the story. There were two shootings at that site within 24 hours. I would like to know also.

Roderick Harris charged with two counts of open murder, felon in possession for double homicide

Published: Tuesday, July 10, 2012, 9:17 AM Updated: Tuesday, July 10, 2012, 9:51 AM

By David Harris | dharris5@mlive.com

FLINT, MI -- Prosecutors have charged the man with two counts of murder and felon in possession in the slaying of a man and woman last month.

Police said Sandra Pittman and Marquise Meeks went to the home of Roderick D. Harris, 43, to collect a debt. Harris allegedly shot the pair as they were exiting the basement, according to police.

Harris was a parolee from the Michigan Department of Corrections for unlawfully driving away a motor vehicle, according to the MDOC. He also served prison time for uttering and publishing and assault with intent to rob while armed, records show.

He also pleaded guilty aiding his brother escaping from the custody of the Genesee County Sheriff's Department.

Harris turned himself in about 12 hours after the shooting.

Stray bullet narrowly misses teen inside vehicle after Flint shooting on Clio Road

Published: Tuesday, July 10, 2012, 4:02 PM Updated: Tuesday, July 10, 2012, 4:30 PM

By Khalil AlHajal | kalhajal@mlive.com

(Brett Carlsen | MLive.com)Cavatis Norton's GM SUV was hit by a stray bullet just feet from his son riding in the vehicle Tuesday afternoon in Flint. "Where's the value of life at?" Norton said. A pedestrian was shot in the gunfire that Norton said came from a black four-door Pontiac Grand Prix near the corner of Clio Road and Cooper Street. Police said the shooting victim was in good condition.

FLINT, MI – A man was shot near the corner of Clio Road and Cooper Avenue around 3 p.m., police said.

Police were investigating in multiple spots near the intersection after reports of shots fired from two vehicles along Cooper Avenue.

Police at the scene did not provide more information on the circumstances, but Cavatis Norton, whose vehicle was struck by a stray bullet in the incident, said it was a pedestrian who was shot.

Police said the victim was in good condition at Hurley Medical Center.

Norton of Beecher said he was driving north on Clio Road when he heard what he thought was fireworks, realized it was gunfire coming from a black four-door Pontiac Grand Am and saw the victim fall to the ground just before a bullet struck his rear passenger-side window.

His teenage son, who suffers from Cerebral Palsy, was sitting in the front passenger seat.

"Broad daylight... School is out. Where is your compassion for the kids?" said Norton, shaken from the experience. "Where is the value of life at? ... Another day in Flint."

The incident occurred near the scene of Flint's last homicide, in which a man was killed and a woman critically injured in a double shooting outside the Palm Tree Lounge on Clio Road last week.

Flint awarded $743,000 Mott Foundation grant for police officers

Published: Tuesday, July 10, 2012, 4:24 PM Updated: Tuesday, July 10, 2012, 4:46 PM

By Kristin Longley | klongley1@mlive.com

FLINT, MI -- The city of Flint has been awarded another grant from the C.S. Mott Foundation to fund 11 Flint police officers for six months, the emergency manager's office announced this afternoon.

The $743,000 community policing grant will also help support portions of the emergency manager's public safety plan, including neighborhood police mini-stations and a criminal justice advisory council made up of local public safety officials, according to a news release.

The grant funds will allow the city to maintain -- not add to -- the number of police officers currently in the department, officials said.

Last year's $1.2 million community policing grant from the Mott Foundation expired June 30. The grant funded 11 officers, officials have said.

Flint emergency manager Michael Brown said previously that the city would likely reduce the number of police officers in the city unless the Mott grant was renewed or another funding source was found.

"This grant will give us much needed short-term support as we develop long-term revenue options for public safety," said Public Safety Administrator Barnett Jones in a written statement.

In addition to funding the police officers, the grant will also help the city continue its ongoing research partnership with the Michigan State University School of Criminal Justice.

Police Chief Alvern Lock said the grant would be used to strengthen community policing efforts in Flint's neighborhoods.

Monday afternoon had a shooting on Wisner. Today had a confusing array of events about 3 pm in the same vicinity,

I think I have the scenario almost worked out.

There was a white 4 door shooting at a black car by Cooper and Wisner.

Then it appears there was a shooting in the 4200 block of Clio by someone with a black grand am. The victim may have been transported in a white vehicle to the hospital and is said to be in good condition.

the police said the white car was in the parking lot but did not say what lot.

Joy Tabernacle in the 2500 block of Chevrolet had a stabbing where the victim knew the suspect.

According to reports other children were in the home when the young girl was shot. An officer responding nearby heard and reported the 10 to 15 shots fired into the home.

Commenters to FPO discuss that the 1 Stop on Fenton can be a dangerous place after an individual was carjacked there.

I have recently seen metal security guards around the outside of air conditioners. That is how the parole absconder was attempting to gain access to the New Attitudes hair salon on Clio. The owner and her children were on the premises and hid in the bathroom while waiting for police. These guards may be a perfect solution for any one with a window air conditioner.

The Howard Boys have all been arraigned, but there were several calls about shots fired in the Floral Park street by Howard Estates.

An armed robbery on Fox was alful close to the future Powers School site.

The story behind that one is quite interesting.
