This is the story most people are talking about. This was the suspects third home invasion!
'I knew he was going to kill me,' says 66-year-old woman who shot intruder in Flint
Published: Friday, June 29, 2012, 3:00 PM Updated: Friday, June 29, 2012, 5:28 PM

Ryan Garza | MLive.comRosa Myles, 66, talks about shooting an intruder at her home earlier this week.
FLINT, MI -- Facing a menacing intruder in her home on Wednesday night, 66-year-old Rosa Myles said she was "nothing but a trembling leaf."
With a gun in her hand.
Fearing for her life, she shot the intruder once in the chest.
"He said 'don't shoot me again," Myles said.
She fired again anyway, this time striking him in the left arm.
"There were so many things running through my mind," she said. "I knew he was going to kill me."
Two gun shot wounds, however, were enough to send the man running from the home -- only to be caught by police within minutes at a nearby home.
On Friday, Dominique M. Carter, 19, was arraigned on first degree home invasion and assault with intent to rob while armed charges. He had a large cast on his arm and hospital gown over his body, looking very much like he messed with the wrong woman.
Myles said she was saying her nightly prayers around 11:50 p.m. Wednesday at her home on Baker Street near Dupont when she heard a noise coming from the back of the home. She thought it might be rain, but she decided to check.
Suddenly, a tall man lunged with a knife at her, grabbing her hand. Unable to move around very well and using a walker, Myles was able to put up little resistance. He began pushing her around, demanding jewelry and money.
She told the intruder that there was some cash in the bedroom. He took her there and was going through the cash.
Then a thought came upon her -- the gun her son had gotten for her a couple months ago was at the foot of the bed.
Myles eased over to it, and grabbed the case. She then asked to use the bathroom, and he let her go.
"I was shaking so bad just trying to get the case open," she said. "The fear was insurmountable."
Ryan Garza | MLive.comRosa Myles, 66, of Flint, shows a section of the screen in her window where an intruder cut through before holding a knife to her after entering her house to rob her at home earlier this week. The small section to the right of the cut is the space the man used to crawl through.
But Myles said by the grace of God she was able to get the case open. She walked back to the bedroom where the intruder was still counting money.
Myles said she still is flabbergasted that the man asked her not to shoot him again.
"I said you just came into my home and tortured me," she said. "You don't tell me what to do."
Myles called 911 and waited for police to come.
Friday, Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said Myles will not face any charges in the shooting.
Myles said she still is having trouble sleeping, scared that someone else may try to break into her home.
She said she didn't want to die at the hands of an intruder.
"Something just said 'fight,'" she said. " I said 'I can't let my sister find me like this.'" |

FLINT, MI -- The man police say shot and killed Marcus Lamonde Payne outside of a Flint Township McDonald's early Monday morning is facing his second murder charge in nearly 15 months.
Dantrell Dante Conerly, 23, of Flint, was arraigned on charges of open murder, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon and felony firearms this afternoon by Genesee District Judge Christopher R. Odette.
A jury found Conerly not guilty in March 2011 for the 2005 death of 16-year-old Bar'Ontay Bradshaw.

Authorities responded to the restaurant at 2:04 a.m. Monday for a complaint about a disorderly person in the parking lot.
Flint Township Sgt. James Baldwin said it appeared that Payne was acting disorderly in the parking lot and was was eventually shot multiple times after an argument ensued between him and Conerly.
Police do not believe Payne was armed at the time of his death.
Witnesses at the scene provided police with a vehicle description and license plate number of the shooting suspect.
Conerly and a 22-year-old woman, who has not been charged in connection with the incident, were located by the Michigan State Police near Ballenger Highway and Raskob Street in Flint at minutes after the shooting.
Odette asked Conerly about his criminal record during today's arraignment. Conerly responded that he had parking tickets and some misdemeanors, but he failed to mention the previous murder charge.
Conerly is being held in the Genesee County Jail without bond.
