Lincoln, a Republican ended slavery The New Deal was a program instituted during the toughest economic time in our history....a FAR cry from where we are now. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 signed by Johnson was a culmination of efforts by a tremendous amount of people...... Should the federal government have made slavery legal in the first place? It was the federal government who originally denied women the right to vote Federal gov. started prohibition New Deal should have never been needed I guess I'll give you the civil rights act Unions?
